Question:
I have a kidney transplant scheduled in two weeks. My wife is the donor and has had pink eye for a week. Will they still perform the surgery?
Answer:
In all likelihood, yes. Pink eye, also known as viral conjunctivitis is caused by a virus and resolves on its own. If there is evidence of mucus discharge and mattering of the eyelids upon awakening, then this may suggest a bacterial conjunctivitis and may require an antibiotic.
