Question:
My nephew has diabetes and has lost his sight. He can now only see shadows if close. Are there any options that could restore his sight?

Answer:
Unfortunately, there are no options to restore sight at this time. However, there is very exciting work being done in the area of artificial vision, using a variety of sophisticated technologies to bypass the damaged retina and transmit visual images directly to the brain. I think we will see great breakthroughs in the next few years.
