Question:
Can a stye begin as a red spot just inside of the lower lid?

Answer:
Yes, a stye is an infected hair follicle, and can begin as a red, tender spot on the inside of the lower lid—as long as that spot is close to the base of the eyelashes. If it is further away, it may represent a clogged oil gland or other lesion.
