My mother has macular degeneration in one eye. Last night she was experiencing an extreme throbbing in that eye throughout the night. Can this be associated with the macular degeneration? What do you suggest we do?
I know of no association between extreme throbbing pain and macular degeneration. Theoretically it is possible that an acute hemorrhage can cause stretching of the ocular tissue and pressure rise and resulting pain. I think that the pain is probably unrelated. However, an eye exam by an Eye M.D. is essential to find out what is causing or did cause the pain.
