Question:
My 20-month-old grandson has a black mole on the inside of his lower eyelid by his tear duct. It doesn't seem to bother him, and when his eye is open, it's not noticeable. We have seen an MD and an Eye MD. The MD said it could be a birthmark. The Eye MD said to come back in six weeks. Do we have reason to be concerned?

Answer:
In general, pigmented lesions of the skin and conjunctiva are observed and often excised due to the low but present risk of malignant transformation. I would suggest that you return to your Eye M.D. for the suggested follow-up.
