I have learned that I have Mac Tel (or macular telangiectasia, a disease affecting the back of the eye). Does this disease cause the same type of vision loss as macular degeneration (a breakdown of tissues in the back of the eye)?
As a general rule Mac Tel has a better prognosis than macular degeneration. However, some people may develop visual loss and symptoms which are similar to macular degeneration. It is important to see an ophthalmologist who is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of both conditions.
