Question:
My niece has a bad astigmatism in her right eye and she refuses to wear her glasses. Does this cause further eye problems?

Answer:
If she is younger than about 7 years, then she will benefit from the glasses by preserving the vision in both eyes. If she is older than 8 years, the eyes have reached their adult pattern and it will not matter whether she wears her corrective lenses or not. If younger, then she should consult with a pediatric ophthalmologist to determine whether the astigmatic eye is at risk.
