My Eyeglasses Hurt My Nose

Question:
I just started wearing eyeglasses a few weeks ago, and now my nose (where the glasses rest) hurts a lot and is red and puffy. What should I do about this?      

Answer:
It is quite possible the fit or material of the frame of your eyeglasses is causing irritation. Some minor adjustments by the optical shop may significantly improve your symptoms. If the symptoms persist despite making adjustments, changing to a new frame or lens material, or changing the nose pads, consider following up with your eye specialist to make sure there is no underlying skin lesion that wasn't previously noted.
