Question:
Due to severe anxiety, general anesthetic will be used for my cataract surgery. Will using this affect my recovery (other than taking a bit longer to become alert) or cause problems (i.e., macular edema) with my eye?
Answer:
There should not be any increased risks of complications with general anesthesia versus topical anesthetic. Make sure to alert the anesthesiologist of all medications.
