Question:
Is it safe to put food coloring in your eyes for a scary Halloween effect? My grandson saw it done on the TV show The Glades. In the show they said the color black would eventually disappear with no harmful side effects.

Answer:
I would not recommend putting any foreign substances into the eyes. They could potentially irritate eyes and introduce toxic chemicals and bacteria to the surface of the eye. Unless the Food and Drug Administration approves a product for eye coloring, it would be safer to refrain from doing so. If you wish to change the color of your eyes, colored contact lenses approved by an ophthalmologist are a better option.
