Ask an Eye M.D. Answer Archive
Question:
My sister-in-law can no longer read but has been told her cataracts are not bad enough to qualify for Medicare. Does that sound right?
Answer:
You have not given me a lot to work with. Yes, it does sound peculiar. There are many types of cataracts and each can impact distance and near vision differently. Assuming that the rest of your sister-in-law's eye examination is normal, it does make one wonder about the cataracts. I suggest you have her seek out a consultation with another ophthalmologist (Eye M.D.)
