Question:
As a helicopter pilot, can I fly with night vision goggles after cataract surgery?  Is there any risk for my eyes?

Answer:
Yes, you can fly with night vision goggles after cataract surgery. It is recommended that you continue to have yearly dilated eye exams after your surgery because of the risk of after cataracts, which could potentially impair your vision. After cataracts—also known as posterior capsule opacification—occur in approximately 30 percent of patients and is a cloudy film that develops on a membrane just behind your new lens implant. The condition can be corrected with a relatively simple laser treatment.
