Ask an Eye M.D. Answer Archive
Question:
I went to the eye doctor and he told me I have 20/15 vision in my right eye but all I could see was movement/ motions in my left eye. I got shot with a bottle rocket back in 2000 and went blind in my left eye. I was told my retina was nothing but scar tissue and they said there was no way to fix it. I am trying to become a cop. Is it correct that there isn't any surgery available to help me see again?
Answer:
Unfortunately, the type of retinal damage that you are describing is not fixable at the present time. In the future, technologies such as stem cells may provide a treatment, but this is still years away.
