Question:
What is causing colors to look faded or washed out after cataract surgery?
Answer:
Typically, colors are brighter and more vivid after cataract surgery. If you are having this problem, the issue may be as simple as the posterior capsule (the membrane that sits behind the lens implant) becoming hazy from cell growth which is normal. The simple treatment for this is a YAG laser treatment in your doctor's office. Unfortunately problems in the retina such as macular degeneration or swelling/edema can also bleach out color vision. Please consult your doctor about what is causing the problem—your doctor may refer you to a retinal specialist to confirm the cause.
